Kapil Sharma Asks Vijay Sharma: How Much Money For Life?

The latest episode of Netflix’s comedy show The Great Indian Kapil Show featured top startup founders of India, including Aman Gupta (boAt), Ghazal Alagh (Mama Earth), Riteish Agarwal (Oyo), and Vijay Shekhar Sharma (PayTM).

Kapil Sharma asked Vijay a fun question about living costs. He asked, “Zindagi jeene ke liye kitna paisa kaafi hota hai?” (How much money is enough to live life?).

Vijay replied, “Zindagi jeene ke liye jo khana-peena aur normal kapde ke liye chahiye, matlab ₹1-2 lakh mahine se zyada kya zaroorat hai” (For living, whatever you need for food, drink, and normal clothes, ₹1-2 lakh per month is enough).

Kapil jokingly said, “Toh utna rakh ke aap baaki humhe Paytm kar denge” (Keep that much and Paytm the rest to us). The audience laughed a lot at this reply.

How PayTM Started
Kapil also asked Vijay about the idea behind PayTM. Vijay shared a funny story: while traveling internationally, he left his wallet at Delhi airport lounge. He only had his phone with him and realized people use phones more than wallets. That gave him the idea to merge wallets into phones—and PayTM was born.
