Gen V S2 Review: Darker & Deeper

The first season of Gen V had the tough job of matching up to The Boys, one of the wildest shows on TV. Even though it was set on a college campus, the spinoff still delivered the same dark humor, shocking twists, and over-the-top madness. But things got even harder for Season 2 after actor Chance Perdomo’s sudden death. Surprisingly, the show not only handled it with grace but also turned it into a powerful part of the story.

The Story

Season 2 begins with Emma, Jordan, and Sam returning to Godolkin University after being freed from prison, thanks to Cate’s help. Sadly, Andre (Chance Perdomo) dies off-screen while trying to escape, and his absence is deeply felt by both characters and viewers. Meanwhile, a new dean, Cipher (Hamish Linklater), steps in with dark and manipulative plans.

What Works

The show deserves praise for the way it handles Perdomo’s death. Instead of brushing it aside, the writers made Andre’s death part of the storyline, allowing the characters to process grief naturally. It feels respectful and emotional.

Season 2 also raises the stakes with bigger conflicts. Supes are now openly trying to dominate humans, creating a tense, divided world. The story cleverly reflects real-life issues like politics, power struggles, and even consumer culture, but without becoming preachy.

Of course, this is still The Boys universe, so you can expect plenty of gore, violence, sex, and jaw-dropping moments that make you laugh, squirm, and stare in disbelief.

The real highlight this season is Cipher, the new villain. Unlike Homelander’s arrogance, Cipher is smart, unpredictable, and always one step ahead. He’s the kind of villain who makes the story even more intense.

Verdict

Gen V Season 2 is bold, shocking, and surprisingly heartfelt. It manages to deal with real-world issues while still being entertaining and wild. With a strong villain, deeper emotions, and more chaos, the show proves it can stand tall on its own next to The Boys.
