Vidya Balan Tagged ‘Jinxed’ After Losing 9 Films

Vidya Balan faced many struggles before becoming a successful Bollywood actress. In a recent interview with Rodrigo Canelas on his YouTube channel Something Bigger, Vidya opened up about her early career problems and how she was once called “jinxed.”

Lost 8–9 Films Early in Her Career

Vidya shared that she had signed a film called Chakram with superstar Mohanlal. She was chosen for the role after an audition during an ad shoot in the South. Her mother, a big Mohanlal fan, encouraged her to take the role. The shoot began, but after 15 days, she was sent back to Mumbai. She was told it was due to date issues with Mohanlal and the film would resume later.

But that never happened. The film got shelved due to issues between the director and Mohanlal. Meanwhile, Vidya had been offered 8–9 other films based on the buzz around Chakram. When Chakram got canceled, all those offers were taken back. People started calling her “jinxed” and blamed her for the failure of the film, even though she had nothing to do with it.

A Tough Time for Vidya and Her Family

Vidya said this was a heartbreaking time. She used to cry herself to sleep every night. Her parents were very worried and even began praying for just one film to work out for her. But Vidya didn’t give up hope.

Finally Got Her Break in Bollywood

Her hard work finally paid off when she made her Bollywood debut with Parineeta in 2005, which won her a lot of praise. After that, she acted in many hit films like Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Paa, The Dirty Picture, and Kahaani. Recently, she appeared in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which was a huge hit, earning ₹389.28 crore worldwide. Fans are now waiting for her next announcement.
