Anupam Kher On ‘Tanvi The Great’: Second Chances Matter

Mumbai — Actor and filmmaker Anupam Kher says he strongly believes in second chances, and that’s exactly what he wants for his film Tanvi The Great. The movie is set to re-release in theatres on September 26.

The film stars debut actor Shubhangi Dutt and marked Kher’s return as a director after his 2002 film Om Jai Jagdish. The story follows the journey of a young autistic woman who dreams of fulfilling her late father’s wish — to honor the Indian tricolor at Siachen, the world’s highest battlefield.

Kher admitted that the film’s first run in July didn’t go as expected, especially since it clashed with Mohit Suri’s blockbuster Saiyaara, which earned huge box office numbers. “I was sad and even cried. But I believe life is about hope and not giving up,” he said.

The film will now return in 17 to 20 cities, starting with limited shows. “It’s a risk for one week but if people like it, the reward can last longer,” Kher explained.

He shared that many people appreciated the film, including Robert De Niro, his friend and co-star from Silver Linings Playbook. That support inspired him to give the film another chance.

“Failures don’t scare me. I’ve built my success on them. I feel we made a beautiful film, and it deserves another shot,” Kher added.
